Mexico City Land Use: Organising a Public-Record Check
A public search starts an investigation; it is not an approval or a complete property verification.
Updated 2026-09-16
Start with the property, not a screenshot
Collect the full address and identifiers available in the property documents. Compare the street, number, colonia and map location. If they disagree, record the mismatch and ask for clarification before interpreting colours or codes. A screenshot supplied by an advertiser might relate to another property or omit its date. Save the original source link and your consultation date.
Separate the questions you need answered
Are you exploring a home’s urban context, checking a proposed activity or examining a document supplied by the seller? These are different questions. Describe the intended use and the particular property. Do not assume a neighbouring unit’s activity applies to yours or that a listing marked “mixed use” establishes the conditions for your project.
Read official sources within their limits
PAOT’s geointelligence microsite provides an entry point to environmental and urban mapping information. Check the layer description, source, date and scale before drawing conclusions. For an application or document, consult the responsible authority’s current instructions. This guide neither determines the authorised use of an individual property nor states current certificate requirements.
Keep land use, hazards and ownership separate
The city risk atlas offers hazard and exposure layers whose source dates vary. That context addresses different questions from ownership, permissions or a building’s structural condition. File each inquiry separately. An unmarked map location does not prove the absence of risk, and a cartographic result does not certify a transaction or proposed activity.
Build a file a professional can review
Include the address, source link, consultation date, layer, image with its legend and the question you still cannot answer. Add documents provided by the owner without publicly sharing identity records or personal information. Take discrepancies to a notary, adviser or relevant specialist. Seek an explanation for the exact property rather than presenting your own map interpretation as an official determination.
Use Fifsee to prepare better questions
Address Intelligence can help explore available public information about an address; coverage varies. Keep authority-issued or professional evidence separate. If you intend to buy, return to your budget, viewing and document checklist and arrange appropriate review before committing.

Frequently asked questions
Is a map screenshot a certificate?
Do not treat it as one. Keep the source and ask the relevant authority or professional which document applies to your case.
Does the risk atlas establish permitted land use?
It answers a different question. Hazard and exposure context does not replace checks of use, permissions or ownership.
Can I apply a neighbour’s result to my property?
Do not assume so. Identify the exact property and unit, and investigate the activity you intend to carry out.
